Project Overview
Entrust Services supported Clarke Telecom on a number of sites within the Shared Rural Network (SRN) project, aimed at enhancing mobile connectivity in some of Great Britain’s most remote and scenic areas. These SRN sites, located in National Parks and National Landscapes, ensure that residents, businesses, and visitors can access reliable commercial networks with a strong focus on site sharing.
Background
The SRN initiative addresses the connectivity challenges faced by rural communities. Entrust’s involvement included a comprehensive understanding of the unique requirements and environmental considerations necessary for planning in sensitive areas. Each site required tailored solutions to meet the expectations of Local Planning Authorities (LPAs).
Strategic Approach
A range of specialist reports to support the planning applications for over 40 sites across England, Scotland, and Wales. Key deliverables included:
- Landscape and Visual Impact Assessments (LVIA)
- Photomontages:
- Zone of Theoretical Visibility Maps (ZTV)
- Peat Assessments

Monitoring and Approval
Throughout the planning process, close oversight was maintained by our team to ensure all documentation was complete and all queries from the LPAs were addressed promptly. This proactive engagement facilitated a smoother approval process for each site.
Outcome
The successful implementation of the SRN project improved mobile communication capabilities in remote areas. By also addressing the unique challenges of each location, this project significantly improved connectivity for communities and visitors in some of Great Britain’s most beautiful landscapes.
